An added bonus to this year’s cook-off is the
“ANYTHING GOES” category! We are looking forward to several entries in
this new contest and can hardly wait to see what types of entries are
submitted!
“Anything Goes” Contest!
Registration for the “Anything Goes” contest will
be held during the “Meet & Greet” Social on Friday, September 18, at
7:00 p.m., turn-in time will be at 9:00 p.m.
The entry fee is $40 per entry.
“Anything Goes” may include any meat that is NOT
one of the four KCBS judged categories. Wild game entries are allowed.
Desserts or sweets are not allowed. To further clarify:
- No Chicken. Other poultry such as duck
or turkey is acceptable.
- No Spare Ribs or Loin Back Ribs.
Country Ribs are acceptable.
- No Pork Shoulder or Boston Butts. Any
other part of the pig is acceptable.
- No Beef Brisket. Any other part of the
cow is acceptable.
For the most part, anything goes in this category,
so you have a lot of flexibility with choosing and entering your recipe.
The meat can be marinated or injected, and these things may be done
before arrival to the contest. Entries can be baked, broiled, barbequed,
grilled, fried, even microwaved, if you so desire. Your entry may be
garnished and could also be used as a salad, hors d’oeuvre, or even a
casserole. Again, pretty much ANYTHING GOES! There will be no holds
barred in the preparation, and a gas grill may be used for preparation
if you wish.
The judging for this contest will be a modified
KCBS format, and judges will not know who has prepared what entry.
Entrants will be provided a 9x9 Styrofoam container for the entry and
should plan to pick this up following the Meet & Greet Pot Luck Dinner.
Prizes will be given for 1st through 3rd place and
will be announced at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday during the Awards Ceremony
and will be as follows:
- 1st Place: 40% of pot
- 2nd Place: 20% of pot
- 3rd Place: 15% of pot
Additional Information
- Contestants must be willing to eat their own
entries.
- Contestants must furnish enough for 8 judges.
- Entries will be judged on appearance, taste,
aroma, and texture.
